  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (cold)
  • 6 tablespoons cold water
  • 4 medium apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar.
  3. Add the cold butter and cut it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the cold water until the dough begins to come together. Form it into a ball, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  5. In another bowl, combine sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut into squares.
  7. Place apple mixture in the center of each square, fold over, and seal edges.
  8. Brush the tops with beaten egg.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Make sure your butter is cold for flaky pastry.
  • Feel free to use store-bought pastry for convenience.
