My Southern Bananas Foster

A delightful southern dessert made with bananas, butter, brown sugar, and rum.

  • 4 ripe bananas
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup dark rum
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 pint vanilla ice cream

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the brown sugar and cinnamon, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Slice the bananas and add them to the skillet.
  4. Cook the bananas for about 2 minutes, flipping them gently to coat.
  5. Add the rum and let it cook for another minute, carefully igniting the rum if desired.
  6. Serve immediately over vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • This dessert is best served warm.
  • Adjust the amount of rum to taste.
